Think of the nerdiest person you’ve ever heard of in your lifetime. Go ahead, picture them in your head. George Lucas? Sparks? Now, immediately replace that image of that person (who is now cool by comparison) with an image of a German artist name Dirk Löchel.
That’s right, Dirk is for sure one of the nerdiest people you’ve never heard of (until now.) He has spent years painstakingly piecing together what must be the most succinct representation of the all the various science fiction spaceships used in pop culture, media, or that have ever existed in science fiction literature.
He has single-handedly taken a scientific approach to science fiction and categorized over 500 space crafts used in Star Trek, Independence Day, Doctor Who and more. Why? Because its fricken awesome.
Take a look at the image below, and be sure to peep the full, high-res version to do it justice.
I cannot imagine the amount of work that went into this. Think of all the hours he must have spent watching, analyzing and memorizing all the names, versions, and origins of these vessels. Surely, he must be sick of watching science fiction and thinking about the size of spaceships by now… right?
Wrong. Take a look at his Deviant Art page and check out how many times this guy has updated his work over the past five years.
